Rosetta Summerville, 71, was pushed off a Q22 bus, knocked unconscious, and stepped on by two young women on Wednesday, Dec. 8.

Two young women viciously assaulted and shoved a woman off a Q22 bus in Rockaway Beach on Wednesday,  knocking the victim unconscious, sending her to the hospital.

The 71-year-old victim, Rosetta Summerville, had been waiting over 45 minutes for her bus, and when the Q22 pulled up to her stop in front of Rockaway Commons on Rockaway Beach Boulevard, she was told by the driver that the bus was too crowded for her and several other elderly and disabled passengers to board.

She pointed out to the driver that the teens shouldn’t be seated in the priority seats at the front of the bus, and proceeded to enter the bus, which is her right to ridership (as per MTA policy of priority seating).

Witnesses say that the teens responded by shouting “put the b*tch off the bus!”

Ms. Summerville asked for assistance from the driver in having the teens move to the rear of the bus or at the very least, leave the priority seating, the driver offered no assistance

One teenage girl attempted to shove the elderly woman and was joined by a second teenage girl who did assault Ms. Summerville, slamming her palms into the victim’s chest. Both teens then used their combined body weight to push Ms. Summerville off the bus.

Shocked witnesses could only watch as she was sent wheeling backward and onto the pavement. The victim was knocked unconscious in the fall, and was stepped on by her assailants as they escaped out the bus.

EMS took Ms. Summerville to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, to be treated for head and body injuries.

“Our officers rendered aid to the victim and initiated a search for the perpetrators who had already fled the scene,” Deputy Inspector Carlos Fabara, the commanding officer of the 100th Precinct, told The Wave. “NYPD Detectives responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing. Crimes against the elderly are a top priority and we are taking this case very seriously and we will do everything possible to protect vulnerable people in this community.”

If anyone has any information on the incident or the teens involved, they are asked to contact the 100th Precinct at 718-318-4223, or Detective Kaitlin Altamirano at 929-287-9585.

I was on the bus when this happened coming from school before the lady got on the bus the bus was packed and everyone was screaming and yelling trying to get the other kids up out of the seats the bus was in the same spot for 20 minutes because of this and after the kids decided to finally move the lady got on the bus but then as soon as the bus started moving one of the teenagers threw a open water bottle I have no clue what happened after that because it was very chaotic

  2. This is a terrible thing that happened to Ms. Summerville, she’s a resident of Beach 41St.
Ms. Summerville, is a very pleasant lady and a great asset to our community. I’m the T.A. President of Beach 41St. and is very saddened to hear this. Hopefully they will find these young ladies and give them what they deserve, because Ms. Summerville, didn’t deserve this.
