Each year the Addabbo Family Health Center provides a special holiday treat for its youngest patients and their parents by hosting a holiday bash at the Knights of Columbus Hall. During this annual event guests are treated to a holiday meal, a visit from Santa and holiday entertainment.

On Thursday, December 11, a troupe of youngsters from the RTC Children’s Musical Theatre workshop put on their Santa hats and scarves, braved the high winds and heavy rains to put a smile on the faces of the youngest patients of the health center. Cara, Nina and Mia Melchiorri, Hayden and Indigo Signoretti, Peter Ebert, Kimberly Omezi, Stephanie Zwirn, Andrew Wagner, Rebecca Boland and Sophia Appel, accompanied by other youngsters, opened the show with “I Heard Those Jingle Bells,” followed by “We Need a Little Christmas,” from the musical “Mame.” Jodee Timpone, Choral Director, accompanied by the children, performed “White Christmas.” Santa (Joseph Canizio) read the Christmas favorite “A Visit from St. Nick,” and distributed presents.

The finale was an all inclusive version of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” One of Santa’s elves (Elizabeth Vivino) divided the crowd into 12 groups, each representing each day of Christmas. The children were accompanied on the piano by RTC Children’s Theatre Musical Director, Richard Louis-Pierre. No RTC Christmas performance is ever complete without an appearance from Frosty the Snowman (Samuel Vivino).

Peggy Vivino, a director of the RTC Children’s Theatre, has been the main organizer of this event for the past seven years. She and her family enjoy the ritual, because they feel it is one of the few events during the holiday season which allows youngsters to experience the true spirit of the holiday season. “We provide entertainment to members of the Rockaway community who do not often have an opportunity to experience live theater and our youngsters get as much pleasure out of doing this as the audience does,” said Vivino. “We would like to thank all the parents who brought their children out on a cold, rainy night so that they could perform. The Rockaway Theatre Company wishes all our friends a happy, healthy, safe and peaceful holiday.”
