SNY, the official television home of the New York Mets, New York Jets and Big East Conference, has announced the official launch of its new youth baseball initiative entitled Play Ball! presented by Sports Authority. Through this new charitable endeavor, SNY will distribute $30,000 to deserving youth baseball leagues – players ages 6-12 – in the Tri-State area to use for the purchase of player equipment and uniforms, field maintenance and renovations as well as other annual operating expenses such as umpire fees.

SNY will also hold a special dedication event at each selected league’s home field and will feature the league in a segment during an episode of the network’s Emmy-Award winning children’s show Kids Clubhouse. Players from the award-winning leagues will also be invited to a Mets game at Citi Field and recognized on-air during the television broadcast of the game. For information on how to apply to Play Ball!, presented by Sports Authority, visit the network’s website at www.sny.tv/playball.

“A key mission at SNY has always been to support our local communities and youth sports, and we are proud to kick off our latest initiative – Play Ball! – with our partner Sports Authority to contribute to the growth of local youth baseball in the Tri-State area,” said Steve Raab, president of SNY. “We’ve all played – or have children who play – youth sports and nothing is more satisfying than supporting youth sports. Helping kids learn the importance of teamwork and healthy lifestyles is vital to their future.”
