Vets Need Local Support

Commander Robert Condoleo of the American Legion Post 272 congratulated the St. Albans’ Committee for their work in running the Chanukah-Christmas party on Sunday, December 6. For the past several decades this committee has had the privilege of starting the Chanukah-Christmas season at this rehab center for disabled veterans and they did it again in “Rockaway style.” With the many donations of usable and new clothing and generous checks that bought canteen books, several hundred veterans were able to receive gifts.

Presently, the committee is in need of help for their up-coming annual Three Kings Party (little Christmas) on January 9 at the O’Connell Post. The group from the rehab center will be entertained, dined and sent home with gifts. The committee is seeking volunteers for the day and need at least 25 gifts of socks, woolen hats, gloves, underwear, sweaters, etc. Most people are unaware that disabled veterans have to supply their own items at the rehab center, so the committee is requesting support.

Packages can be left at the Post on Beach 92 street and the freeway. Donations by check should read “St. Albans Veterans Canteen Service.” Letters should be addressed to Commander Robert Condoleo or Ed Hazel, chairman.
