The Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge hosted its quarterly program for children four years of age and older on Sunday, December 14. The program focused on the topic of winter. The visitor center overflowed with children who learned about hibernation, migration, trees without leaves and evergreens.

Broad Channel residents, Julia Daudilen and Nancy O’Connor, along with Park Rangers Julia and Kayleigh, organized a program which included reading about animals in winter. The leaders developed a craft that involved stickers, drawing, and making a blanket of snow out of batting. The program also included a ranger led nature walk to discover trees, sign of animals, and carefully placed snowflakes to mark the trail.
