In the wake of a ‘shots fired’ call at that address a few weeks ago and constant complaints from other area residents, a multi-agency task force made up of several city agencies, including Community Board 14, Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), the Department of Buildings (DOB) and the New York City Police Department (NYPD) descended on 123-11 Rockaway Beach Boulevard on Wednesday morning checking many of the various violations from the roof to the basement. At the time of the shooting call, the buildings owner told The Wave that he was attempting to turn the building around so that it would become more in tune with the surrounding neighborhood and that many of the apartments remained vacant.

Task force members, including CB 14 District Manager Jonathan Gaska, Police Officer Pete Rahaniotis and a Department of Buildings Inspector.

The many open mailboxes are a testament to the fact that more than half of the apartments in the building remain vacant in an attempt to empty the building and revamp it to meet community standards.
