First responders say they are searching for 17-year-old Lamine Sarr, who is feared to have drowned after being caught in a rip current while swimming with two of his friends at Beach 86th Street on Saturday, Sept. 15.

No lifeguards were on duty where the group went swimming, and once his friends realized Sarr was in trouble, they attempted to save him, but were nearly drowned themselves in the process. They were rescued by passersby.

Sarr is a junior at Channel View School for Research on Beach Channel Drive.

The NYPD said it’s now considered a recovery mission.
