Rockaway Roasters on Rockaway Beach Boulevard has been a longtime supporter of creative art expression. The laidback environment inside surrounds guests with breathtaking work by various local artists in Rockaway every couple of months.

Now on display is the work of lifelong Rockaway resident Mike W. Deutsch. Recently returning from a trip in Iceland, Deutsch shares six amazingly stunning photographs taken throughout his trip there and seen for the first time in the public eye.

“I been photographing my whole life — since I was seven years old. My father had a camera and I used his and always loved it.” said Deutsch. “I don’t travel as much as I’d like but I just recently visited Iceland the Grand Canyon, Zion Canyon, and Bryce Canyon.”

With so much traveling, Deutsch is looking forward to many more new experiences and sights to photograph and satisfy his wanderlust. The next stop for him will be Montreal and Quebec starting next month and Iceland once again in March and April.

“My favorite by far was Iceland, it was incredibly beautiful, quiet and clean. I visited south Iceland and east Iceland but I’ll return to east Iceland and a small part of the west in March and then April will be the west and north Iceland,” said Deutsch.

Fifty of Deutsch’s images were shown, alongside those of John J. Grillo’s, last year in Double Vision: Two Photographers, Two Perspectives, an exhibition by the Rockaway

Artists Alliance.

In February, as profiled by Patricia Hannan in The Wave (Portrait of an Artist: Mike W. Deutsch), Deutsch had a successful exhibit at Roasters.

“I showed a lot of my work in SoHo, in Chelsea, all around the city — there’s over 100 images of mine hanging up in Rockaway and I have pictures hanging as far away as Texas, Montreal, Florida, and Paris,” said Deutsch.

Deutsch’s gallery can be found and prints can be ordered at www.mikedphotos.com.
