Lew, You’ve Got My Vote

Dear Editor;

We are all familiar with politicians who just talk. I would like to express my thanks to one who takes action.

About two months ago, I sent in my application for a handicap-parking pass. During the supposedly four week wait for my permit, a close relative was diagnosed with an illness that necessitated frequent trips to hospitals and doctor’s offices in Manhattan. I would have to drive, drop her off, park some distance away, and walk back to the hospital or office where I had left her.

This walk was difficult for me, so I was gratified when I received an envelope from the city that I assumed contained the permit. When I opened it, I was shocked to find that my application was returned, and I had to resubmit it. Although it was clear that my application was complete, it became evident, after making several phone calls to the agency involved, that the bureaucracy would stymie me.

I called Lew Simon. He told me to come right in. I arrived at his office at 5:15 p.m. on a Friday evening. He reviewed my papers and expressed sympathy with my plight. He then made several phone calls. At 6:00 p.m. Lew told me to pick up my permit on Monday. I did, and my life has become a lot easier.

Thanks Lew. It ‘s clear that normal business hours are no barrier to you. You’ll have my vote in the primary and the general election. Government needs more people who know how to get things done.
