Lawmakers Respond to School Compromise

The lawsuit commenced by State Senator Carl Kruger against Mayor Bloomberg and Chancellor Klein is scheduled for a Court Conference with all parties before Justice Ling-Cohan today, Friday, May 30.

The Court requested this meeting in view of a proposal that Chancellor Klein presented in an attempt to compromise the matter.

Bruce Baron, the attorney for Senator Kruger and a number of other legislators involved in the suit, as well as parents of public school children, commented on the proposal "This is simply a ploy on the part of the defendants to deflect attention away from the real issue. That issue is ‘Did the defendants violate the law by failing to follow legal procedures in order to institute changes?’ The answer is a resounding YES! The proposal by Chancellor Klein, to substitute the District Superintendent and the District Office in each District with a ‘Maytag Repairman’ type set-up, of a person at a desk in a room somewhere in each District, defies reality and consideration!"
