The city’s intermittent beach closures, rain (and more rain) and a bike sharing program no one asked for were just a few of the factors that cut deeply into our local businesses this summer.

Now that fall is upon us, it’s incumbent that we rally as a community to support those local businesses that stay open all year long.

As our Ray Vann reported in “Closing Out The Season In Style” on page 40 of this week’s edition, one great way to support local business is by taking part in events like the Rockaway Business Alliance’s “Rock-a-Block Boulevard,” which will take place between Beach 89th and Beach 94th Streets along Rockaway Beach Boulevard on Oct. 13.

“Liking” and “sharing” businesses on social media is great, but actually going to those shops and restaurants is what’s really needed.

From the Dred Surfer Grill on Beach 17th and the boardwalk to Kennedy’s in Breezy Point and everywhere in between, every little bit helps.
Shop Local, Shop Small, Shop Rockaway.
