The Beach Channel High School Dolphins dominated the field during their playoff game on Saturday, Nov 16, triumphing against the Stuyvesant Peglegs with a score of 40-14.
The Dolphins braved the cold and demonstrated a fierce playstyle at their home field with a tight offense and stern defense. The team made a statement during the first quarter by gaining possession of the ball from an early Pegleg fumble. That fumble opened the doors and allowed Beach Channel to make their first touchdown of the game with a 32-yard push that let the Dolphins force their way to the endzone.
The 2nd quarter of the PSAL quarterfinals reflected the strong Dolphins offense with another touch town and conversion, leaving the Peglegs short. The Dolphins did drop some chances to convert after touchdowns, but it didn’t interrupt their game and they maintained an unanswered lead throughout the first two quarters.
The Peglegs battled back during the second half, delivering two touchdowns against the Dolphins, but still needed two more to catch up. Stuyvesant relied more on passing than running the ball, which found a way over the Dolphin’s defenders on several occasions, but it was ultimately the decisive defense from Beach Channel that kept the pressure up and prevented Pegleg yardage overall, limiting the Peglegs to a final score of 40-14.
The Dolphins now sit fourth on the PSAL Cup standings with eight victories and only two losses. The next Dolphins playoff game will be away from home against Grady in Brooklyn on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 12 p.m. There, the Dolphins will be looking for a repeat performance after defeating Grady once before on Nov. 3.
