A condensed 100th Precinct Community Council meeting revealed plummeting crime rates across the board in the coverage areas extending from Arverne to Breezy Point.

The precinct’s recently appointed commanding officer, Captain Louron Hall, detailed a 28-percent drop in every major category with the exception of GLA (grand larceny auto theft) crimes, which experienced a “slight” 11-percent uptick.

“This is Week Five for me at the precinct and things are going well,” began Hall, who wasn’t hesitant about spreading the praise among his colleagues at the Wednesday, Aug. 22 conference held at the Beach 90th Street Knights of Columbus Council. “It’s a testament to the hard work that these officers do on a day-in and day-out basis, so I just want to take some time out to commend them on their tremendous work.”

The precinct’s top cop also doled out kudos to local community members for their efforts in maintaining and promoting safety.

Among the issues brought to Hall’s attention was “meandering” crowds of bar patrons who reportedly cause various forms of ruckus in the Rockaway Beach area from the hours of 2 to 4 a.m., according to civic leader and Community Board 14-member John Cori.

“There’s been a lot of knocking off garbage cans. It’s just petty stuff,” he communicated while describing how these groups make their way onto the boardwalk “and drink a little more” before barreling their way down neighborhood streets and, in some cases, proceed to destroy car mirrors.

Hall stated that he would make it a point to have officers patrol the bar and boardwalk areas in the immediate hours after midnight.

On that same topic, the commanding officer advised the audience that they will be witnessing increased patrols through the Labor Day weekend in response to a number of recent “pop-up parties” that have been taking place at Riis Park.

In response to Rockaway Beach resident Jill Lauri’s request to have representatives from the Queens District Attorney’s Office attend future meetings, 100th Precinct Community Council President Joe Young informed her that Executive Assistant District Attorney Jesse J. Sligh will partake in upcoming sessions during the fall to introduce a new class of Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs).

Furthermore, both Young and Hall promised that they would look to invite members of the state police, along with National Parks Service (NPS) officers and members of the NYPD Transit Bureau in the months ahead.

In other developments, the 100th Precinct’s Community Affairs officers P.O. Daniel Smyth and P.O. Maurice Moore were among a select group who received proclamations from NYC Public Advocate Letitia James in recognition of their public service.
