Channel View High School believes in giving back to the community.

This year, juniors at Channel View continue the tradition of visiting Neponsit Adult Health Care Center.

Ms. Douglas and students from her “crew” class – students divided into groups of about 15, called “crews,” that meet daily with a teacher and stay together for several years — will continue to visit the DSSM Neponsit Adult Health Care Center once a month to engage in what they call an “Inter-generational Game Day of Seniors vs. Juniors.”

With the help of the senior activity therapist, Ms. Beth Gutman, along with her clients/patients at the adult care center will engage in everything from celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, Thanksgiving Day skit, poetry and readings, “What Thanksgiving Means to Me,” Christmas party celebration, Black History Month celebration, Women’s History Month and a “carnival session.”

During the carnival session, the students play games like volleyball, bean bag tosses, dominos, blackjack, spades and a table game called “The Horse Race.”

Ms. Douglas’ crew students want to do something extra special and meaningful to give back to their community.

The seniors at the center say they love when they are visited by Channel View students. Additionally, it gives this special group of juniors a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment to know they are making a real impact on the lives of someone in need in their community.
