Baked Goods For A Cause

Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 14. That’s the day the youngsters who live on the bay block of Beach 130 Street are baking once again and will be offering their baked goods to the public, beginning at 11:00 a.m. These homemade goodies will be sold near the corner of B. 130 Street and Cronston Avenue.

Last year following September 11 these enterprising young people wanted to do something to help the community. Ms. Kelly Magee of B. 130th Street and her friends came up with the idea of running a bake sale and recruited the other children on the block. The idea soon turned into a baking festival and contributions, many made and wonderfully decorated by the children themselves, began pouring in. This group of young citizens raised more than $1,100.00 – all of which they donated to the Rockaway Partnership Relief/Tribute Fund administered by the Rockaway Chamber of Commerce. This special fund will be used to pay for the tribute installation to be located in the new waterfront park soon to be under construction at B. 116 Street and Beach Channel Drive. The proceeds from this second bake sale will also be donated to the Tribute Fund.

"Make sure you attend the bake sale and help both the kids and the community," says Chamber of Commerce President Liz Sulik. "You can always save the baked goods for desert."
