A 15-year-old Arverne youth was arrested Monday in connection with the shooting death of a teenager inside the lobby of a building in the sprawling Ocean Bay Houses in Far Rockaway last November.

Detectives from the 101 Squad arrested Ramel Sanders, 15, of 411 Beach 54 Street for his involvement in the November 27, 2006 murder of Christopher Glenn, 16, Captain Brian McMahon, the Commanding Officer of the Far Rockaway precinct said.

Sanders’ arrest follows the earlier arrest of another teen, Sashawn Simpson, who surrendered to police on December 8 of last year and was charged with the murder.

Police say now that Sanders was the shooter in the Glenn homicide.

“We arrested someone [in December] who wasn’t the shooter, [but] he was someone who was running with the shooter. We were able to put it together and the squad made the arrest this week,” said McMahon at this month’s Precinct Community Council meeting on Wednesday. “It was a good collar for the guys who made it.”

Simpson is charged with murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown. His next court date is set for May 24.

Court records show that Glenn was standing in the vicinity of his building in the Ocean Bay complex at 54-11 Almeda Avenue at approximately 6:55 p.m. on November 27, when he was shot by a young man on a bicycle. He was struck once in the neck and pronounced dead at Peninsula Hospital Center.

Glenn was one of three young men who were fatally shot in Rockaway as 2006 came to a close.

Cedric Smalls, 18, was killed on December 15 in front of 81-03 Beach Channel Drive, at the Hammel Houses complex and Laton Spurgeon, 28, was slain on December 19 outside his brother’s home on Fernside Place in Far Rockaway.

In February The Wave reported the arrest by officers of the 101 Precinct, of Andrew Smalls, 18, for Spurgeon’s murder.

Police sources say that all the shootings are connected to disputes between rival gangs in two of Rockaway’s city housing complexes.

Sanders was arrested at his home be detective Baldwin Henry of the 101 preceinct squad.

Sanders was arraigned on April 16 on charges of murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a loaded weapon.
