3 Beaches Closed August Fifth For Fireworks

Three of Rockaway’s most heavily-used beaches will be closed all day on Tuesday, August 5 to allow for the setting up of a fireworks display, which will take place at 9 p.m. that evening.

The three beaches that will be closed on August 5 are Beach 115 Street, Beach 116 Street and Beach 117 Street.

"The fireworks will be set up on the beach this year, rather than on a barge off the shore, setting up a safety issue for those using those three beaches," says Liz Sulik, the executive director of the Rockaway Chamber of Commerce. "The only people allowed on the beach at Beach 116 Street will be those involved in the "Shack Attack" event earlier in the day.

The fireworks, part of the National Night Out Against Crime ceremonies sponsored by the 100 Precinct Community Council, will begin at 9 p.m.
