Rescue At Breezy Point

On Sunday, Sept. 9, at approximately 7:30 p.m., police responded of a 911 call of a water rescue at Breezy Point Beach, west end, near Oceanside Avenue.

NYPD Aviation and Harbor units responded to the location. Upon arrival, officers observed a Chevrolet Silverado on the sand, partly submerged in water. NYPD Scuba divers, deployed from an Aviation Unit helicopter, entered the water, and observed three males and a female who were trapped inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

A 27-year-old male, 58-year-old male, 44-year-old male and 28-year-old female were removed from the vehicle and escorted to the shoreline where they were examined by EMS and refused medical treatment. A preliminary investigation revealed that the 27-year-old male operator and his passengers drove onto the beach, where they began fishing. Unaware of the incoming tide, the water began to rise, submerging the wheels of the truck in the sand. After calling 911 for assistance, the tide continued to rise and water began to fill the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

There were no immediate summonses issued and no arrests effected. The investigation remains ongoing by the United States Park Police. There were no other injuries incurred in connection with this incident.
