Renovation of the boardwalk from Beach 24 Street to Beach 27 Street continues despite promises from Department of Parks and Recreation in January that the repairs would be complete by May 2010. Trish Bertuccio, a spokesperson for Parks told The Wave in an email this week, “The boardwalk renovation is part of a $17.5 million stimulus fund project and a Mayoral allocation to improve the boardwalks at Rockaway Beach and Coney Island. The completion of the boardwalks in different areas will open on a staggered schedule, with some wrapping up at this summer and other parts later in the year. This weekend, Beach 29 Street to Beach 32 Street will be open for swimming.” “As high school and college students finish up school, our lifeguard roster continues to grow and we will schedule their locations accordingly. More beaches will open as construction finishes on different sections of the boardwalk.” Photos by Miriam Rosenberg 030p1.jpg
