After record-breaking storms caused extensive damage to beaches in the center of the peninsula, Congressman Anthony Weiner got together with Queens Borough President Helen Marshall and the New York City Parks Department to formulate a plan that would replenish the beaches in the short term while developing a long-term plan to keep the beaches sandy. Last Tuesday, Weiner, Marshall and other officials took to the boardwalk to look at the newly-restored beaches around Beach 92 Street. The pipeline that brought the sand to the beach comes all the way from the East Rockaway Inlet, at the far eastern end of the peninsula. More than 121.000 cubic yards of sand will be dredged from the inlet and placed on Rockaway’s beaches from Beach 90 Street to Beach 103 Street. 027p1.jpg
