An EMT attends to one of two firefighters who received minor injuries fighting a fire, that one NYPD official on the scene deemed to be suspicious, at 229 Beach 14 Street last Saturday evening. Twelve units, 60 firefighters were called in. According to Battalion Chief Endall, the fire started in the basement and rose through the basement roof to a first floor room in the rear of the house. Endall said the heavy plywood, with which the house was boarded, caused heavy smoke on the premises. The fire is under investigation. Both firefighters were taken to Peninsula Hospital Center. The home has been vacant for a number of years and was the scene of another fire in April of 2006. According to the Department of Buildings’ website, there are seven open violations pending against the owners, Gertal Associates 2 LLC. Photos by Miriam Rosenberg 063p1.jpg
