Dr. Michael Franklin, Director of the Emergency Department at Peninsula Hospital Center, (front) hosted emergency personnel from local ambulance corps at an interactive lecture to better prepare ambulance personnel to handle a stroke victim en route to the Hospital Center. Victoria Backus, RN, MS, Nursing Director, PHC Emergency Department (second from right) joined Dr. Franklin for the presentation. PHC is a NYS designated Stroke Center with an expert stroke team in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week prepared to administer the very latest in appropriate stroke therapies. "The more quickly a stroke can be diagnosed; the more expeditiously possible drug intervention can be administered. Quick appropriate action can mean a better outcome for our patients and that's always our goal. It just makes good common sense that emergency ambulance personnel know what to look for and what to do during transportation to the hospital," explains Dr. Franklin. Peninsula Hospital Center has hosted several of these informative and educational sessions for emergency service personnel on various topics. Joining Dr. Franklin and Backus, in the photo are members of the Rockaway Point and Rockaway Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
