Arverne East, the land along the beachfront from Beach 35 Street to Beach 57 Street, may one day become a glitzy mix of hotels, movie theaters and new homes, but today it stands as a deserted stretch that draws only feral dogs and garbage dumpers. A Wave photographer recently roamed Edgemere Avenue from one end of the area to another and found numerous dumpsites. It is clear from the photos that many construction companies find it cheaper to dump by night in Arverne than it is to pay to dump at a landfill. In addition, lots of garbage that looks like it comes from a home-cleaning is scattered throughout the site. Pictured, construction debris is strung all along the 20-block area. 050p1_xlg.jpg
