The municipal parking lot, located along Beach 116 Street, next to the subway station, has been entirely closed since October 5. The lot was originally slated to be partially open during the rehabilitation, but New York City Department of Transportation officials state the lot has been closed due to unanticipated sewer-related conditions. As a result, the lot will be closed for 2-3 weeks while the problem is addressed. Thereafter, the lot will remain partially open as planned. The work will replace existing pavement (level and correct depressed areas); replace broken pipe (sewer work); replace fencing; repair or replace sidewalk around the facility; replace signs; put in new striping and construct new lighting and light poles. The project was supposed to take eight weeks and completely close the lot for only five days — two days for milling/compaction and three days for paving. When it does open, to minimize the impact on the community during construction, the meters will all be removed and parking in the open portions will be free. 026p1_xlg.jpg
