A confluence of low pressure areas far off Rockaway's shores created a unique surfing opportunity on both Monday and Tuesday as larger-than-usual waves were pushed up towards the beach. The waves at the surfing beach on Beach 90 Street were so strong that some surfers left work and came to the beach to try to conquer them, while others stood and watched, not sure whether discretion was the better part of valor. These surfers, isolated on a jetty, contemplated whether or not to take the plunge on Monday afternoon, while dozens of residents looked on from the boardwalk. 004p1_xlg.jpg
