Four non-Rockawayite boaters were caught off guard early Sunday afternoon, at approximately 2:30 p.m., when their vessel took on water from choppy waves 50 yards from shore at Beach 124 street. Police Sgt. Hansen, among the first emergency personnel at the scene, radioed for NYPD aviation which responded with two choppers. Local fire department personnel were joined by two NYPD aviation divers who were lowered into the ocean. They were able to confirm that all boaters were accounted for, with no injuries to report. The boat’s owner, Milton Beamers, stated that his 17-foot boat with a 50 HP outboard motor had overturned when a wave hit it from the side. Dozens of beach goers watched as a few good men on shore assisted the boaters in uprighting the vessel as it got closer to shore. (Photo by David Seidner) Boat_Overturns_In_Ocean0916p1_lg.jpg
