Seventy-seven young women from the metropolitan area enjoyed a week at Bishop Kearney High School’s basketball camp in July. The girls spent many hours each day practicing the basics of the game, as well as competing in actual games and contests that measured those skills. Besides making new friends, the participants interacted with 16 coaches and counselors during the day. Each camper received a camp tee shirt, water bottle and Kearney tiger at the awards’ ceremony, held on the last day. Kearney’s award winning varsity basketball coach, Cathy Crockett (Breezy Point), directed the camp along with assistant coaches Kerry O’ Grady and Katie Greene (Belle Harbor). The girls from the Rockaway peninsula who took part in the week’s activities are pictured with their coaches.
