Last month history came to life at P.S./M.S. 43 with a visit from Grandma Moses. She talked about her life as an artist and then answered questions. That is, art teacher Jo Anne Ellis dressed as Grandma Moses. Ellis wore a wrinkled mask, white wig, shawl, and walked with a cane. Students enjoyed her “chat.” They look forward to October’s Artist of the Month. Grandma Moses, was born as Anne Robertson in September of 1860 on a farm in New York. She married a man named Moses and got her nickname. She sewed in her early life. By the time she reached her late 70’s, Moses couldn’t manage any longer. She started painting and continued until her death at age 101.
