The Parks Department has begun removing many of the older trees that once grew on the center islands on blocks such as Beach 67 Street and Beach 69 Street north of Beach Channel Drive. This view of Beach 67 Street, looking towards Beach Channel Drive, tells the story. Some of the trees were as much as two feet in diameter. Local residents question why the trees are being removed. They wonder if it is part of a city plan to do away with the dividers and widen the street, or if it has anything to do with the massive Arverne By The Sea project of with the development of the strange buildings recently constructed on Beach 67 and Beach 68 Streets nearby the subway and Kohlreiter Park.070p1_lg.jpg
