A group of kayakers from the Sebago Canoe Club were given a tour of the bay by Don Riepe, Jamaica Bay Guardian. During a break, they picked up over 200 pounds of floatable debris from Canarsie Pol. “If every bay user spent 10 minutes cleaning a shoreline, we’d have a much nicer bay and local wildlife wouldn’t get tangled up in plastics and fishing line”, said Riepe. The canoe club resides in Paerdegat Basin and sponsors Saturday morning trips in the bay. Pictured, a group of Sebago Club kayakers takes a break to clean up a shoreline on Jamaica Bay. In September the Littoral Society will conduct a bay-wide cleanup.
