The Cancer Society will once again host the local version of its “Relay For Life” this weekend at Beach Channel High School. The event will begin on Saturday afternoon and will end on Sunday. Teams of local residents will form, with at least one member of each team required to walk or run laps all night. The kickoff of the event is the highly-charged “Survivor’s Lap,” where those who have survived cancer lead all the other walkers around the track. Last year, the event was highly successful even though inclement weather forced the event inside the school gym. Luminaries to honor both those who have died of cancer and those who have survived will be sold at the event and lit on Saturday evening.
