While the subway was closed down by striking transit workers, right down the block on Beach 21 Street, commuters board the only mode of public transportation available in the Rockaways – a Green Bus. Green Bus workers, who are members of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1179, will become members of the MTA when the Green Bus Lines are transferred to the MTA on January 9, yet they did not go out on strike in support of the members of the TWU. A defiant representative for ATU told The Wave that Green Bus workers “have a contract. They were on strike in January.” The representative refused to give his name, but the intimation was clear. The TWU did not support the Green Bus strike and now the Green Bus employees were not going to support the present strike.
