Celebrating its ninth year, PS 114’s Before School P.S/M.S. Chess Club inaugurated its Fall, 2005 season via some fierce chess match play competition.  Rising before the sun, Technology Instructor Ron Gerson changes hats, turns in his mouse pad for a chessboard, and assists all Chess Club members, novice to veteran, gain insight into the previous Sunday New York Times Chess Column, by Robert Byrne. Invented in India, circa 700 A.D., the sport of chess inspires the mind while it concomitantly offers to students keen insight into deciphering mathematical patterns...Quipped Gerson, “We must be doing something right...when our Chess Club members tell me they cannot wait, for the 5:30 a.m. alarm to ring on Friday mornings...Checkmate!175p1_xlg.jpg
