Work at Tribute Park on Beach 116 Street and Beach Channel Drive has accelerated and it is now widely expected that the park, dedicated to the memories of those locals and firefighters who died in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, would be ready for a September 11, 2005 opening. Pictured, the site on Wednesday. The raised platform for the mosaic that was once to be the floor of the cupola stands at the center of the park. To the right of the raised mosaic is a contractor and a female official for the New York City Department of Parks, the agency that owns the site. In the rear center is the support for the glass dome that will make up the focus of the park. 231p1_xlg.jpg
