A total of 130 people from a coalition of many groups came out for Earth Day last week  to clean up and restore the “Four Sparrow Marsh” in Jamaica Bay. Groups represented included: American Littoral Society, NYC Dept. of Parks & Recreation, NOAA, Gateway NRA, Green Apple Corps, Partnerships For Parks, Sierra Club, NYC Audubon, National Parks & Conservation Assn., Home Depot, Ernst & Young, Diamond Point Yacht Club, Sebago Canoe Club, Home Depot, Richmond Hill High School, CityTerm School, and Tia-Cref Org. The group removed an estimated total of 10 tons of wood, plastic, old tires, and other debris that was impacting marsh growth. “This was a massive effort by many people and the start of this year’s Operation Jamaica Bay Clean Sweep program,” said Don Riepe, the Jamaica Bay Guardian. .
