A raging blizzard that included a “Thundersnow” episode that dropped up to five inches of snow an hour in some parts of the tri-state area left more than 15 inches on the Rockaway peninsula from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon. At Central Park, the snow measurement hit epic proportions, with 26.9 inches recorded, a new snowfall record. John F. Kennedy Airport recorded 16.7 inches and Lynbrook (Long Island) 11 inches. Pictured, Beach 129 Street across the street from St. Francis de Sales was typical of the peninsula. 167p1_xlg.jpg
