Sand sharks, or smooth dogfish, like the one seen here, are commonly found in shallow water from Canada to South America during this time of year. They feed on small fish and shellfish on the ocean floor, and are harmless to humans. The small sharks are often caught and thrown back, dead or injured, by fishermen to whom they have no value. 054p2_xlg.jpg
