Councilman Donovan Richards came out September 7th to exercise during the 11th week of an enduring exercise program. Rockaway Walks “Lift Up” Seventh season included the young and old; with over 80 individuals taking part in Rockaway Walks. The program aligns itself with Healthy People 2020 national objectives and invited all fitness levels in its primary objectives to promote physical literacy in health and nutrition and staying physically active across one’s lifespan. The 2013 season consisted of three stages of physical development that allowed participants to focus on (1) strength and conditioning (exploration), (2) coordination and balance (adaptation), (3) readiness and task specific (overload) that progress each week. Everyone is encourage to listen to your body and practice stress management techniques. This involves positive self talk, “Yes I can…,” while performing leisure, recreation and sport activities.
