Rockaway got a sprucing up on April 21 as part of the annual New York Cares Day. Some of the 800 volunteers who took part in the citywide event worked to clean up Beach 9 Street and Seagirt Boulevard near the beach and along the highway leading to Atlantic Beach. Crews also cleaned areas of Bayswater and Jamaica Bay Park. By the end of the day 80 parks, community gardens and green spaces across the five boroughs were spruced up and ready for the arrival of summer. The event also raised $38,376 for New York Cares programs. Photos by Miriam Rosenberg 25p1.jpg
