The Kindergarten classes at St. Francis de Sales had a New Year Celebration to top most. No, they didn’t attend Times Square for the ball dropping. Instead they celebrated Chinese New Year. Students painted and created their own dragons and lanterns to celebrate the year of the dragon. They wore the color red to symbolize fire, which is believed to help drive bad luck away. Students had a Chinese feast of rice and noodles. One class is completing a special project in which students are helping to create a life-sized dragon by adding a scale for every book they read. Most children were ecstatic to see a little red envelope in their folder with “lucky money” inside. Gong Hey Fat Choy from the Kindergarten class of St. Francis de Sales.
