Dozens of parents, board members and students last week crowded the steps at Tweed Courthouse in Manhattan, the headquarters for the city’s Department of Education, to protest the proposed closing of Rockaway’s first charter school, the Peninsula Preparatory Academy. Parents argue that the school has received three “C” grades in a row from the DOE and has student test scores that are better than some of the local public schools, which are slated to remain open. 54p1.jpg
