At the New York Road Runners’ first Jamboree of the school year held on Sunday at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory, four young runners from P.S. 197Q in Far Rockaway cleaned up! The P.S. 197Q Mighty Milers won first place in their heats and some of the kids won in two events. The runners (from left to right): Nylique Knight (11 years old, fifth grade: first place 55m and 200m), Lida Murrel (9 years old, fourth grade: first place 200m), Ny’hemia Steadman (9 years old, fourth grade: first place 55m) and Nashawn Wilson (10 years old, fifth grade: first place 55m and 200m) pose with their PE teacher, Richard Reiss, and Sportacus, from the television show LazyTown, who joined the NYRR team to help motivate and energize the kids with warm-up sessions throughout the day. 70p1.jpg
