On Saturday, September 17 the Xavier and Xaverian junior varsity football teams met in Marine Park with Xavier coming out on top by the score of 8-0. The only score of the day came in the second quarter when QB John Strehle, of Belle Harbor, found Brian Burke, of Breezy Point, on a 15-yard TD pass. Strehle and Burke were 2 of 16 players in the game that are alumni of the Brooklyn Hurricanes youth football program. Many of their former pee wee coaches were on hand to watch their former players compete against one another in a great game that came down to the final play. With Xavier clinging to a one score lead, Xaverian drove the ball down to the Xavier 10 with under a minute to play. On fourth down, Dennis Barnes, from Xavier and Belle Harbor, picked off a Xaverian pass in the endzone to preserve the win. The Brooklyn Hurricanes organization could not be more proud of all their former Hurricanes, as they continue to improve as football players and grow into fine young men. Once a Hurricane, always a Hurricane! Top Row: Brian Burke, Ray Marten (Poly Prep), Jimmy Morgan, John Strehle, Joe Vazquez, Joe Cutrone, Sean Coleman, Dennis Barnes, Eddie McCarthy, Greg Delaney.
