A portion of the Rockaway Freeway, once considered the most dangerous road on the peninsula, has become a parking facility for the new stores and restaurants at the Arverne By The Sea Transit Plaza. Officials say that the Chase Bank will open by mid-November and that a Subway fast food emporium and a sit-down Italian restaurant will quickly follow. Plans are for the entire length of the Freeway to be closed over the next ten years providing beach parking. If so, this short portion, from Beach 73 Street to Beach 67 Street, is the harbinger of things to come. Photo by Howard Schwach. 1p1.jpg
