Bald Eagles Return to New York ... A record number of bald eagles have been seen this winter on the Hudson River just north of New York City at Croton-on-Hudson and Peekskill. Although rarely seen in the five boroughs, several sightings were reported at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in Broad Channel during 2010. Jamaica Bay Guardian Don Riepe recently snapped this photograph of a magnificent specimen of America’s national bird. Riepe will be leading a bird walk at the refuge on Saturday, March 26. Perhaps a bald eagle will make an appearance! Call 718-318- 9344 to reserve a spot on the walk.
