New York City subway cars that have been retired from service are often dumped into the waters of the Atlantic Ocean off the coasts of other states such as South Carolina and Maryland in order to make artificial reefs that are useful to both fisherman and divers because they attract sea life. New York State, however, does not allow that practice and the city often has to pay lots of money to truck the old cars to other states. Congressman Anthony Weiner came to Beach 95 Street and the beachfront on Friday to call for a change in state law that would allow the unused cars to be dumped off Rockaway. 076p2_xlg.jpg
