The traffic signs in this photo, taken by Wave editor Howard Schwach, are in front of the new Rockaway Diner on Beach 116 Street. The signs, constructed by the Department of Transportation (DOT) make some things clear. You cannot park or stand in that section of curb unless you're a truck driver from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. Also, the streetcleaning hours are from 7:30 to 8 a.m. every day but Sunday. So far, so good. You can park there and feed the meters on Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. A question remains, however. What happens between 6 and 7 p.m. on weekdays? Can you park there at all? Do you have to feed the meter? What to do? The DOT says that their signs are all adequate for anybody who can read. Perhaps, perhaps not.
