Photo by Anna Spivak It was a night of praise at the 100th Precinct Community Council’s Feb. 15 meeting as residents stood up to commend the precinct’s community policing efforts and one officer received a Cop of the Month honor. Officer Patrick Ceriello received his plaque at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Beach 90th Street for a notable, recent arrest he made.

“Officer Patrick Ceriello is being awarded this plaque for an arrest he made over the winter,” explained Sgt. Julieann Stapleton, who presented Ceriello with his award. “He had a car stop and upon further investigation, he found out that the individual had forged credit cards. Because he goes above and beyond, he did more of an investigation and was able to obtain a search warrant where he recovered credit card machines, fighting dogs and arrested four perpetrators for that crime, so that’s a really big thing.”

Local residents and officers in attendance gave Ceriello a round of applause before diving into community matters.

Officers were happy to report that there were no outstanding, violent or worrisome issues to address. They did, however, warn attendees not to leave their bags unattended while shopping and to be very meticulous about locking their car doors. Several residents stood up throughout the evening to applaud the 100th Precinct on their community policing chops.

“I just want to commend them,” said Gary Robinson, who owns Goody’s BBQ Chicken & Ribs in Arverne with his wife Joan. “I’ve seen all of these faces before and they’re doing a great job.”
