Last Call At Riis Park
Although Rockaway will still be alive with festivals, events and scrawls, Sept. 26 and 27, marks the last great weekend for the concessions of summer. Over on the west end the Riis Park Beach Bazaar will be capping off a very successful first season. On Sept. 25, they are throwing an “End of Summer Bash” which starts at 4 p.m. and runs till midnight. The afternoon and night will be rolling with live music by Grimshaw, and also Brother Rich and DJ Roland Cespedes. They are also inviting one and all to “Rock Out At Our Final Killer Karaoke!” The popular Bazaar fixture will feature DJ Frankie Italiano playing the tunes and a full roster of Riis rock stars ready to roll.
Who’s going to wow the crowd? It could be you! On Sept. 26, starting at 1 p.m. it’s Time Out New York Live’s turn to turn up the music.
Performing live will be Perfect Pussy, Guerilla Toss, Pawns, Ghost Dads and Show Me The Body. It’s all musically curated by Ipsum.
Time Out New York magazine hits it out of the park one last time on Sept. 27. Starting at noon they will present all live music from the So So Glos, Nude Beach, Mannequin Pussy, Big Eyes, Bueno and Bikini Carwash.
Now that it is past Labor Day, parking at Riis Park’s huge lot is completely free.
Riis Park Beach Bazaar, which signed a five year contract with the National Parkby SusanService,Carloopened in late May and is run by the entrepreneurs who created the highly successful Brooklyn Nights Bazaar in Greenpoint.
It is part of NPS strategy to directly engage more people and bring them to the federally owned parks and beaches.
Although the new venture at Riis Park was slated to close up shop on Labor Day weekend, it proved so successful that its season was extended by nearly a full month.
