MTA Takes a Dump on Rockaway

MTA maintenance truck caught dumping raw sewage in street
Mark C. Healey

Elisa O'Toole was driving along Edgemere Boulevard when she noticed a truck dumping some sort of liquid into the street, a few yards away from the subway station at Beach 35th Street. When she smelled a terrible odor, she immediately called The Wave and stayed at the location.

When I arrived, the men -- clad from head to toe in white hazmat suits -- were spreading the liquid and what only can be described as clotted masses of filth into the street.  I immediately began taking pictures, and when I asked what they were doing, they said it was their job, and it was safe.

"If it is so safe, why are you wearing hazmat suits?" I asked.  They didn't respond.  I kept taking pictures.

This investigation is ongoing, and we will keep you updated.

Are you kidding me??? This

Are you kidding me??? This has to be dealt with. What with Ebola, an outbreak of Mono recently in NY and all the other "hazmat suit" types of virus' out there. Ya, real safe.....I wear a hazmat suit all the time at work. Sure. Right. Safe, my posterior. And beside a subway station. Whatever it is, it's in the sewers now. Rockaway's sewers. Thank you Ms. O'Toole for watching out and reporting this and thank you Wave for covering it. Keep us informed.

Prendergast should hear this

Prendergast should hear this RIGHT AWAY... and personally respond to Rockaway IMMEDIATELY!!! MTA, EDC, City Hall, Homeless Services, DDRC, it's all the same, all the time! Great thanx to Elisa!!!...PJS
